Some of the best and worst ideas one can have come while sitting around the fire at deer camp. The plan to start Maven was one of these ideas, and we like to think it was one of our best.
Maven was started by myself, my brother and a good friend, Drew. We all love to hunt, golf and eat, but not necessarily in that order. Trips to West Texas to get away, were, and still are, a common occurrence. When you first look at Buffalo Gap, there's not much to it. Just another small West Texas town tucked away 15 miles southwest of Abilene. Just a handful of small restaurants and less than 500 people. But anyone that likes to hunt, play golf, and eat good food should take a closer look. It's a special place for us. Where else can you make a morning hunt, play a round of golf, hit the deer stand that night, and then eat at a great steakhouse while never getting more than 20 minutes from the ranch? Of course, it wouldn't be deer camp without having a few beers and telling stories around the fire. There was one particular campfire conversation that wont be forgotten, the one that started Maven....
That night, we talked about a gap we could fill, providing local oilfield companies with supplies at competitive prices. Being East Texas guys, we had some oilfield contacts and started reaching out. Our goal was to provide the best customer service without overcharging. We made the decision day one-make an honest profit regardless of the circumstance and work our asses off to keep our customers happy. That's how we would to grow our business.
We started out with a small inventory, just a few product lines from two manufacturers. It didn't take long to realize our customers needed more. We started stocking shelves. What began as a small valve and actuator specialty shop developed into an all out oilfield supply company. One warehouse turned into two and before we knew it, it was time to build our own space. A 6000 sq ft facility with offices and a yard went up in Longview in April of 2020.
2020 wont be forgotten for lots of reasons but for us, it will be remembered as the year our hard work paid off. Our shop is stocked with diverse product lines that continue to grow and we have expanded our customer base to include not only oil and gas, but a variety of industrial companies. We are amazed at the growth so far and look forward to the future.
